"And the beat goes on"

Image
Regardless of the song's meaning, for me it means the same you-know-what, different week. I have two more working weeks after this, then I'm on vacation from 4 PM Friday September 30 to 8 AM Tuesday October 10 (after our Thanksgiving holiday). I'll have a few vacation days left after that, but am hanging on to them for vet appointments/other. Or the sheer, desperate need to get away from the office for an extra day, whichever comes first.   We had a young robin visiting a couple of weeks ago. Sorry, Tabbies. Okay, I'm not sorry, I'm not sorry at all.* [*Has anyone in Canada seen that Midas TV commercial with the "possessed" car? It's enormously stupid, I know it's stupid, but it makes me laugh every time I see/hear it. Maybe it's the voice of the car. "I'm sorry, Cheryl. No, I'm not, I'm not sorry at all." For some reason that cracks me up--every time.] I'll be heading to visit friends while I'm of...

Mr. Sleepyhead

Image
No, not the boys -- they're always sleepyheads...except when *I* want to sleep, of course. No, it's one of the squirrel visitors this afternoon, apparently exhausted from burying so many peanuts in the little back space. "After" "Before"     Work done and settling in for a snooze. I envy any Being's ability to fall asleep wherever they are! Our thoughts, purrs and purrayers to all those who have been and will be impacted by Irma (and the other two hurricanes as well, Jose and Katia). May All Beings be well. Peace.

The boys' morning visitor

It's not quite 6 AM here and already we've had a "big" adventure! Both Nicki and Derry were outside, Derry on the back step, and he was meowing and meowing and meowing, wouldn't stop. I went out, thinking that perhaps Nicki had somehow found a way over the fence, didn't see him. Then Derry ran to the fence and kept meowing...slow-witted human that I am, I finally spied two eyes and a mask behind the sheeting. A raccoon was up there, just looking at us, quite comfortably perched.  Of course I ran for the closest camera, which, unfortunately, was only the little Canon point and shoot, tried to get a pic. Couldn't see what I was doing, the flash wouldn't engage, and by the time it did, the raccoon was on the move. If you look closely at the awful snapshot, you can just make out a blob--and if you peer really closely, you can see a bit of the face on the far right, visible through that tiny gap in the corner of the sheeting. Apparently ra...

Frisky Friday

Image
I know Derry is blurry in this pic, but it was so fun that I couldn't resist keeping it and posting it. Snapped yesterday after work. Have a "frisky" Friday! Peace . Comments are off.

It's deja vu for this Tuesday Tussle

Image
Now, haven't we seen this before?  :-) Pics snapped Sunday morning. In the beginning, all was well.... Nicki got the corner chair first and Derry seemed content.       However, eventually Derry decided enough was enough, time to reclaim "his" chair. And so it went. :-)                Yes, to the victor goes the spoils. Again. Nicki didn't seem too put out, though. At least he had a few minutes in the coveted corner chair! On another note: Right now our thoughts and purrayers are with the millions of Beings affected by the catastrophic flooding in Texas. I've been watching a lot of the coverage on TV and I have difficulty grasping the enormity of the disaster, of that much endless rain. The last major storm we had here dumped 110 mm of rain on us in a day, and that was incredible; I can't fathom 7 to 10 times that amount. There's not much I can do, but I am sending out universal Light...

Winding up the week

Image
Last week dragged for me, in spite of being busy at work, but this one has flown by. I wish the weekends wouldn't "fly by," though! Morning sky on Monday the 21st, the day of the eclipse (partial for us): I don't know anyone who had the proper glasses to view the eclipse (about 70% coverage in our area), but I briefly went out with a co-worker and did the pinhole thing. Quite a few staff people in the building did the same. It was better watching NASA's live-streaming coverage.  :-) Below, the friendly bus stop kitty, also on the morning of the 21st. He's pretty street savvy, but still, I worry for his safety. Wish I knew his name! The afternoon sky on Tuesday the 22nd, on the way home and waiting at the bus transfer point. We had a torrential downpour while I was on the bus, but fortunately it was over before my stop. Lucky! Nicki, below, meowing his fool head off after I got home one day this week. Still looking for a way over tha...

"Two Bee or Not Two Bee"

Image
I know that blog post title is a groaner, I couldn't help myself. (Click to enlarge.) I had been at a bus stop on Saturday morning, snapping pics of one, then another bee, in the roses. Both ended up on the same one for a moment, a brief bee tussle ensued, then both went on their way. Two other snapshots are below, single bee only. It was very windy, so it was hard to get a pic in focus. I snapped 33, kept the best 6 of the lot, which doesn't say much. LOL.   Still, it's always fun to watch them, they're completely intent on their jobs, seemingly oblivious to me or the camera. Come to think of it, they're better models than my cats!  :-) Peace .

Walking down memory lane

Image
Tuesday night I had the most wonderful dream about being back in Gaspé, QC, where I grew up. Someone was driving me through Wakeham, heading toward SunnyBank where we lived, and I was pointing out my best friend's old house, all the other places I remembered. It wasn't exactly as it was growing up -- St. James Church was more impressive in the dream than in reality, and in the dream there was another church across the road, other landmarks that didn't really exist when I lived in there. But the feeling I had in the dream was one of such deep joy at seeing it all again. I woke for a bio break and thought what an amazing dream it had been--and also that I wished the dream had continued long enough so that I could have seen our old house. With that in mind, yesterday I launched Google Earth to see what it would show me. I would love to be walking along the road again, seeing everything. I realize that you never can go home again, and of course as an outsider to the co...

It really is "the gift that keeps on giving"

And giving. And giving. All over the basement. Pretty much every night. Derry    Nicki   Happy "wordless Wednesday". Comments are off. Peace .

Chip (not Dale)

Image
This is Chip. I had popped into my vet clinic first thing Saturday morning, to pick up some Advantage Multi, and Chip was there to say hello. (That's the on-duty staff person, petting him, in case that's not obvious.) Chip is one of three resident clinic cats now. (I got pics of Patches the last time I was there, and I can't remember who the third kitty is, haven't seen him or her.) Chip was one of two cats that a couple (or family, I'm not sure) had, the other being Dale. The people were moving to Cornwall (Ontario) to take care of the husband's ill mother and had brought Chip in to be euthanized because he'd been diagnosed with Diabetes and they felt they couldn't care for him.  I am so tempted to make a cutting, disparaging remark about those people, but I wasn't in their shoes. I know I would not have made the same choice had I been. Even if I felt I couldn't care for a companion Being anymore, I would move heaven and ...
